[ Pinocchio can't be bothered trying to have emotions for a dead ruler he's never met, either. A funeral is a new experience, especially a royal one, but it's just one more dead person. ]
I'm not really built for peace.
[ He means that literally, but he means it in the philosophical sense, too. What would he do if he didn't have any type of battle to worry about? ]
Have you seen the woods? I've never known monsters to keep to themselves for long. Maybe there's something keeping them at bay.
A soldier or a warrior, I take it? I could understand the feeling.
[That’s where he’s found his strength too, although he wouldn’t mind hanging his sword for good once all is over.]
Indeed, I have. Sometimes they dare to pray on the small animals at the outskirts but they never delve further out. Perhaps there is something like a magic barrier keeping them at bay?
[ He hasn't met a soldier at home, really. He's met Stalkers and various others who are fighters, who are violent, who don't bat an eye at combat or even bloodshed. Strohl has been rather forthright, so it's hard to see him as someone prone to violence in the way that so many from the various factions of Krat. Maybe he is a soldier then? ]
A magic barrier…maybe so. There's a lot about magic that I don’t understand at all. I never encountered it before.
[ That's not entirely true, but he doesn't really see anything that happened at home as magic. It's science or engineering or alchemy or who knows what. No one calls things magic and means it, though, so he assumes his world is devoid of magic. ]
Yes, but only for a time. I'm more of a wandering fighter these days.
["For a time" is an understatement - his enlistment practically lasted all of but two days, considering their captain's betrayal and the massacre at the northern fort.]
I'm no expert in magic itself, but something like that would be feasible in this world, I think. This place feels likely to house such a power.
A pleasure to know of another fighter, then. It seems our ilk are necessary here, considering the dangers outside of town.
[Close enough!]
The magic in my world - well, it's complicated to explain, but it does operate differently from the one in this world.
[There's a lot to talk about there, from the regulations of igniters to forbidden magic to Archetypes themselves. Speaking off.]
I can do magic, yes. However... [His eyebrows furrow with a frown.] The magic I know of currently escapes me. I know the spells and the experience, but nothing happens - it's as if the very magic of this place is interfering with what I have.
[ Pinocchio frowns a little. He knows little of magic. Alchemy, Ergo, those things seem similar to what others call "magic." But they don't exist here. What this place has is foreign to him. ]
You're not the only person who's said similar. I'm not missing anything like that, exactly. But the upgrades I had done to my arm are all gone, as are my weapons. I've heard we can get things back with shards. Maybe your magic is like that.

[ It isn't exactly, but he's not really sure what the difference is, knowing nothing about Strohl's world. Close enough! ]
There's magic in your world? Is it like this one? Can you do magic yourself?

[He would take any opportunity to regain his former strength, as long as the cost isn't too great.]
